A long bar
If you have a particularly wide log to cut this winter, a model with a long pole is ideal. Although they usually have more powerful engines, they are usually heavier and harder to start than those with shorter rods.

Chain-tensioning dial
For efficiency and safety reasons, all chain saws, whether using gasoline or not, need to maintain a properly tensioned chain. Some models require you to use a separate screw to tighten it, but some models have a useful dial on the side, which means you don't need to reach for different tools.
