General operation and safety tips for generators

• Keep the generator in a level, clean and dry environment.

• Never refuel the generator while it is running, as fuel splashing into the running engine can cause a fire.

• Do not operate the portable generator in buildings or near doors and windows. It produces fatal carbon monoxide gas.

• Most generators are noisy. Make sure to place the generator as far away as possible from the eye care unit to avoid disturbing patient care.

• Conduct regular tests to ensure that the generator can be used at any time (one month is a good rule of thumb).

• On electric start models, please charge the battery regularly.

•Always keep fresh fuel on hand and follow the safety recommendations regarding storage and use of fuel. The shelf life of gasoline and biodiesel is about six months. Diesel fuel lasts about a year. *Engine parts can become very hot during operation. It may cause severe burns if touched.

• Never try to repair the generator. Only qualified service technicians can perform repairs.
